Questions
What should I check on a certificate of insurance?
The insured name, each coverage and limit against your requirements, every policy's expiration date, whether additional insured and waiver of subrogation are marked, and that the certificate holder is your exact legal name.
Does a certificate prove I'm an additional insured?
No. A certificate is informational and doesn't change the policy. Ask for the additional insured endorsement itself, such as forms CG 20 10 for ongoing operations and CG 20 37 for completed operations.
What if a policy expires during the job?
Ask for the renewed certificate before the expiration date, and don't let work continue on an expired policy.
Is anything I enter sent to you?
No. The check runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent to dailybuilt.
The example above fails three ways
The aggregate limit is half what’s required, the umbrella has expired, and additional insured isn’t marked. Those three are the most common reasons a vendor certificate gets sent back. Read all seven checks. Need to ask for one first? Use the certificate of insurance request builder.
